Founding members were allocated shares when the business was started with allocations of 20% of shares in December 2016 and December 2018.
At the same time three new members have joined the group. Carruthers and Kent from Newcastle, Somerset Wine Company and Museum Wines from Dorset.
Tenuta del Melo Gavi
Tenuta del Melo can be found in the heart of Gavi’s hills. It is owned by the Rossi Cairo family who have promoted sustainable agriculture in the region for many years. Today Tenuta del Melo is certfied Biodynamic by Demeter. The estate itself covers 20 hectares planted with both Cortese and Barbera vines planted on marl soils.
The grapes for this Gavi are handpicked in mid September, carefully sorted, destemmed and gently pressed. It is then allowed to settle for a period to reduce the solids before the must is run off into stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is slow and temperature controlled lasting up to 20 days after which the wine is left on its lees for for 3 months to impart texture and character into the finished wine.
The resulting wine is fresh, mineral and fruity with lovely texture and length. Lovely citrus notes and fresh acidity make this a great wine to serve as an aperatif or with Dover Sole.
